MULTI TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS
At Creswick Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed. Our comprehensive Multi-Tiered Systems of Support ensure that we support students who may be at risk of falling behind. We offer a range of targeted intervention programs designed to support students in achieving success to the best of their ability.
Phonics Intervention
In the Junior Unit, our Tier 1 whole-class instruction is based on a systematic synthetic phonics program. This evidence-based approach is also implemented as Tier 2 small group support, providing additional exposure for students who require reinforcement or extension. Further practice is embedded across reading, writing, and spelling activities. For students needing intensive support, the program is also adapted for Tier 3 one-on-one intervention.
MacqLit Literacy Intervention
We use MacqLit Literacy for our older intervention students. MacqLit is an explicit program that focuses on the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
QuickSmart Numeracy
QuickSmart intervention focuses on understanding and recall of basic number facts. By building fluency in this area, QuickSmart allows the students to develop automaticity which leads to the development of conceptual understanding. QuickSmart intervention is offered to students in Years 4-6.
Education Support Staff
We are supported by a dedicated team of Education Support (ES) staff who play a vital role in both the classroom and playground. In the classroom, ES staff provide one-on-one support, work with small groups, and deliver targeted intervention sessions either within or outside the classroom. In the playground, they assist teaching staff with supervision and offer additional one-on-one support to students as needed, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all learners.
Speech Therapy Assistant Program (STAP)
Students who require extra support in the area of speech and language are included in our STAP program. This program runs in consultation with our Department of Education speech pathologist and involves students accessing individual sessions with our trained Education Support staff.
